Chesaning Varsity Baseball defeats St. Charles 10-0 in Game 1

The Chesaning Varsity Baseball team traveled to St. Charles on Tuesday to face the Bulldogs in a non-conference double header. The Indians won the first game 10-0 behind a complete game no-hitter by Lucas Powell. This was the Indians third no-hitter in a row. Powell pitched 6 innings and gave up 0 hits, 2 walks and struck out 12. With the win, Powell’s record improves to 3-2 on the season. Offensively the Indians started out slowly, but finally started to get things rolling in the top of the 3rd inning. Alex Duranso led the inning off with a single to right field. Then with two outs in the inning, Brady Sager was walked and Tyler Sager was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Eli Escamilla then collected 2 RBI when he singled to right field and drove in Duranso and Brady Sager. Max Volk then walked to once again load the bases and both Tyler Sager and Escamilla scored on wild pitches to make the score 4-0 in favor of Chesaning. Blake Laskowski was the lead off hitter for the Indians in the fourth inning and got things started with a line drive single to center field. Alex Duranso and Adam Woodcock then loaded the bases when they both were walked. Laskowski then scored when Brady Sager hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 5-0. The Indian bats finally came to life in the sixth inning and were ignited by a double down the left field line by Duranso to lead the inning off. Woodcock then singled to left field, putting base runners at first & third base. Powell then hit a triple down the third base line, scoring both Duranso and Woodcock to push the lead to 7-0. Powell then scored on a wild pitch and Tyler Sager was walked to once again put a runner on first. Max Volk then hit a triple of his own to left field and Tyler Sager scored to make the score 9-0. Lucas Rumisek then joined the hit parade and drove a double to center field to push the final run across the plate and make the final score 10-0.

Offensively the Indians were led by:

Alex Duranso 2-2, 1 walk and scored 2 runs

Tyler Sager 1-2, 1 walk, 1 hit by pitch, and score 2 runs

Max Volk 1-2, 1 walk and scored 1 run

Adam Woodcock 1-2, 1 walk and scored 1 run

Lucas Rumisek 1-3, 1 walk and 1 RBI

Lucas Powell 1-4, 2 RBI and scored 1 run

Eli Escamilla 1-4, 2 RBI and scored 1 run

Blake Laskowski 1-4 and scored 1 run

With the win, the Indians improved to 25-3-1 overall and 14-0 in the MMAC.
