Chesaning Varsity Baseball completes the sweep by defeating St. Charles in Game 2, 16-1

Chesaning defeated St. Charles in game 2, 16-1 in the mercy rule shortened four inning game. The Indians scored early and often in game 2 and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lucas Powell and Nash Wendling were both walked to start the inning. Powell then scored from second base on a wild pitch which really got the Indian bench fired up. Tyler Sager then hit a double to right field to score Wendling. Brady Sager then walked and Tyler Sager eventually scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0 after the first inning. Max Volk then led off the second inning with a walk and Dylan James followed it up with a walk. Adam Woodcock then hit a double down the left field line to score both Volk and James to increase the lead to 5-0. Woodcock then scored after a couple of passed balls. Eli Escamilla and Wendling then walked and both eventually scored as well on passed balls. That made the score 8-0 in favor of Chesaning after two innings. St. Charles scored their lone run in the top of the third inning the make the score 8-1, Chesaning. Max Volk, Dylan James and Adam Woodcock then walked to load the bases in the bottom half of the third inning. Powell then singled to right field to drive in Volk and James and pushed the score to 10-1. Woodcock then scored on a wild pitch and Wendling walked on the same pitch. Tyler Sager then hit a hard ground ball off the pitcher for a single and loaded the bases in the process. Escamilla then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which allowed Powell to score and made the score 12-1. Brady Sager then walked and Wendling scored on yet another wild pitch. Lucas Rumisek then singled to drive in Tyler Sager and increased the Indian lead to 14-1. The Bulldogs then went 1-2-3 in the top of the 4th inning. Woodcock then walked in the bottom of the fourth inning and Powell followed with another walk. Wendling then hit a single to right field and drove in Woodcock. Tyler Sager ended the game with a line drive single to center field to score Powell and make the final score 16-1. Brady Sager took the mound for the Indians and earned the win for the Indians. Sager pitched 4 innings and gave up 2 hits, 1 walk, 1 unearned run and struck out 9 batters. With the win Sager improves his record to 2-0 on the season.

Offensively the Indians were led by:

Tyler Sager 3-4, 2 RBI and scored 2 runs

Lucas Powell 1-2, 2 walks, 2 RBI and scored 3 runs

Adam Woodcock 1-1, 2 walks, 2 RBI and scored 3 runs

Nash Wendling 1-1, 3 walks, 1 RBI and scored 3 runs

Lucas Rumisek 1-3 and 1 RBI.

With the win the Indians finish the regular season with a 26-3-1 overall record and are the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference Champions with a 14-0 conference record.

Chesaning will next play on Tuesday, May 31 in a MHSAA Pre-District game vs. St. Charles Bulldogs and Chesaning High School with a 5:00 PM start.
