Chesaning Baseball defeats Merrill 4-2 in Game 1

The Chesaning Varsity Baseball team traveled to Merrill on Friday, April 29 and came away with a 4-2 win. Merrill took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st on a solo home run. The score stayed 1-0 until the top of the 3rd inning when Chesaning scored 2 runs. Adam Woodcock and Lucas Powell both were walked and then Nash Wendling hit a run scoring double to deep center field. Powell then scored on a passed ball to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Indians. The Indians added a run in the top of the 4th inning on an RBI single by Lucas Powell. Merrill then made the score 3-2 in the bottom of the 4th inning on another solo home run. Chesaning added the final run of the game in the bottom of the 7th inning on another run scoring single by Powell as he drove in Logan Fulk.

Nash Wendling started the game on the mound for the Indians and went 3 innings giving up 1 hit, 1 earned run and struck out 4. Logan Fulk came in for relief and pitched 3 innings to earn the win for the Indians and improved his record to 1-0 on the season. Fulk gave up 1 hit, 1 earned run, walked 1 batter and struck out 3. Tyler Sager came in for the 7th inning to collect the save. Sager faced 3 batters and struck out all 3.  

Offensively the Indians were led by:

Lucas Powell went 2-4, 1 walk, 2 RBI’s, and scored 1 run.

Nash Wendling went 2-4, 1 walk and collected 1 RBI.

Keighan Stoddard also went 2-4 and scored 1 run.

Logan Fulk was 1-4 and scored 1 run. 

Brady Sager went 1-4.

With the win the Indians improve to 8-1 on the season.
