Chesaning Varsity Baseball defeats Corunna 10-6 in Game 2

The Chesaning Indians defeated the Corunna Cavaliers 10-6 in game 2 of a back and forth contest. The Indians took the early lead by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Lucas Powell led the game off with a walk and immediately scored when Nash Wendling doubled to the left center field gap. Tyler Sager then singled to left field to move Wendling to 3rd base. Sager then stole 2nd base and on the throw Wendling was able to steal home to make the score 2-0. Corunna then responded with 2 runs of their own to tie the score at 2 after the 1st inning. Chesaning came back in the top of the 2nd when Alex Duranso led the inning off with a double to left center field. Adam Woodcock followed with a line drive single to right field advancing Duranso to 3rd base. Lucas Powell then singled to left field scoring Duranso and Woodcock advanced to 3rd base. Nash Wendling then doubled to center field scoring both Woodcock and Powell to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Indians. Corunna once again answered by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of teh 2nd inning to make the score 5-4 Chesaning. Chesaning went quietly in the top of the 3rd inning and the Cavaliers once again scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take a 6-5 lead. Chesaning came right back in the top of the 4th inning to reclaim the lead. With 2 outs Nash Wendling hit his 3rd double of the game and scored when Tyler Sager doubled to left field. Sager then scored when Eli Escamilla doubled on a ball hit to right field making the score 7-6 Chesaning. From this point it was all Chesaning and Indians added 3 more runs in the top of the 5th inning. Logan led the inning off with a double and advanced to 3rd base when Adam Woodcock reached on an error. Lucas Powell then doubled to center field scoring both Fulk and Woodcock. Powell then scored when Wendling singled to right field to make the score 10-6. Brady Sager started on the mound and earned his first varsity win in the contest. Sager pitched 5 ⅓ innings giving up 8 hits, 6 runs (3 earned runs), walked 1 batter and struck out 3. With the win Sager’s record is now 1-0. Logan Fulk came in for relief and pitched great to close the game out, recording  the last 5 outs. Fulk gave up 1 hit, 2 walks and recorded all 5 outs by strike outs.

Offensively Chesaning was led by:

Nash Wendling 4-5 (3 doubles), 3 RBI’s and scored 2 runs.

Lucas Powell 3-4, 1 walk, 3 RBI’s and scored 3 runs.

Tyler Sager 2-4, 1 RBI and scored 1 run.

Eli Escamilla 2-4 and 1 RBI.

Logan Fulk 1-2, 2 walks and scored 1 run.

Adam Woodcock 1-4 and scored 2 runs.

Alex Duranso 1-4 and scored 1 run.

Max Volk 1-4.

With the win, the Indians record improves to 15-2-1 overall and 8-0 in the MMAC.
