Chesaning Defeats New Lothrop 8-2 in Game 1

Chesaning, the ninth ranked baseball team in Division 3, defeated the fourth ranked New Lothrop Hornets 8-2 in Game 1. Both teams went quietly in the first inning and New Lothrop sent 4 batters to the plate in the top of the second inning, but did not threaten to score. The Indians offense got started in the bottom of the second inning when Brady Sager led off with a single. Logan Fulk then reached on a throwing error, which allowed Sager to advance to third and Fulk to second. Max Volk then hit a double to center field driving in Sager and Fulk to give Chesaning a 2-0 lead. Keighan Stoddard then singled and moved Volk to third base. Lucas Powell then hit a fly ball to left field and Volk tagged up and scored to make the score 3-0 after 2. The score stayed the same until the bottom of the fourth inning when Fulk led off the inning with a single. Volk then reached first on an error and Fulk advanced to third. Lucas Rumisek then hit a fly ball to center field and Fulk tagged up and scored to make the score 4-0 Chesaning. Stoddard then collected his second hit of the game to put runners at first and second. Nash Wendling then singled to right center field driving in both Volk and Stoddard to make the score 6-0 Chesaning after 4 innings. The score remained the same until the top of the sixth inning when Chesaning dropped a fly ball with 2 outs and the bases loaded. The error allowed two New Lothrop runs to score to make the score 6-2. The Indians responded in the bottom of the sixth inning when Rumisek reached base after being hit by a pitch. Powell then reached by a walk and then Nash Wendling drove in Rumisek with a lined drive single. Tyler Sager then followed with a single of his own to right field that drove in Powell to make the score 8-2 in favor of the Indians. New Lothrop then went 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh inning to end the game. Tyler Sager took the mound for the Indians and pitched a great game against a great New Lothrop team. Sager pitched all 7 innings and gave up 4 hits, walked 2 batters, 2 unearned runs and struck out 7. With the win Sager’s record improves to 8-0 on the season.

Leading the way offensively for the Indians were:

Nash Wendling 2-4 and 3 RBI

Keighan Stoddard 2-3 and scored 1 run

Max Volk 1-3, 2 RBI and scored 2 runs

Logan Fulk 1-3 and scored 2 runs

Brady Sager 1-3 and scored 1 run

Tyler Sager 1-4 and 1 RBI

With the win the Indians improve to 11-0 in the MMAC and 21-3-1 overall.
