With the 2023 Mid-Michigan Activities Conference Championship already in hand the Chesaning Indians looked to win the final conference game of the season, however the Montrose Rams had other plans. The Indians took the early lead in the top of the first inning when Lucas Powell walked to start the game. Powell made his way to 3rd base and then scored when Nash Wendling singled to give Chesaning an early 1-0 lead. The Indians added a run to their lead in the top of the 2nd inning when Eli Escamilla singled to lead the inning off. Escamilla advanced to 2nd when Max Volk singled to right field. Escamilla eventually scored when Powell drove him in with a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0. The Rams then took advantage of 3 uncharacteristic Indian errors and added 6 hits to score 7 runs (2 earned runs) in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 7-2 lead. Brady Sager who started on the mound for Chesaning then retired the next 13 batters including striking out 9 batters in a row to hold Montrose to 7 runs until the 7th inning. The Indians cut into the lead in the top of the 4th inning when Escamilla singled to lead off the inning. Escamilla advanced to 3rd base and scored on a passed ball to cut the Montrose lead to 7-3. Then in the top of the 5th inning the Indians fought their way all the way back to tie the game. Logan Fulk led the inning off by being hit by a pitch. Adam Woodcock and Lucas Rumisek followed with singles to load the bases. The bases remained loaded with 2 outs when Max Volk doubled to deep left center field allowing Woodcock and Rumisek to score. Powell then followed with a single to drive in Escamilla and Volk and tie the score at 7-7. Neither team was able to score again until the bottom of the 7th inning when the Rams managed to score a run on another Chesaning error. With the run Montrose earned the win 8-7. With the loss the Indians finished with a 13-1 record in the MMAC and ended their 33 game win streak in the MMAC. However, more importantly for the 2nd year in a row, Chesaning has finished as the MMAC Champions. This is the first time since 1989 and 1990 that Chesaning has won consecutive league championships in baseball. Brady Sager started on the mound for the Indians and pitched 5 2/3 innings. Sager allowed 7 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 14 batters. Lucas Powell came in for relief and got the final out of the 6th inning and pitched the 7th inning. Powell suffered the loss and allowed 1 unearned run, 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 1.
