ST. CHARLES COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL: 0
Chesaning welcomed the St. Charles Bulldogs to town on Tuesday, May 23 and the Indians defeated the Bulldogs 15-0 in game 1 behind Lucas Powell's no-hitter. Powell pitched all 3 innings in the mercy rule game for the Indians. Powell allowed only 1 baserunner, a lead-off walk in the 2nd inning, on his way to his fourth victory of the season. Powell also struck out 6 of the 10 batters he faced.
Chesaning got action on the base paths early in the bottom of the first inning when Brady Sager and Nash Wendling both reached base with walks. Logan Fulk then loaded the bases with an infield single. Adam Woodcock then hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Sager to give Chesaning 1-0, but that is all the Indians could score in the 1st inning. The Indians then broke the game open scoring nine runs in the 2nd inning. Blain Butcher led the inning off with a walk and then quickly scored on a single by Max Volk. Powell then reached on a walk to give Chesaning runners at 1st and 2nd base. Sager then hit into a fielder's choice to get Volk as he was trying to advance to 3rd base. Nash Wendling then grounded out for the 2nd out of the inning, but he drove in Powell to give Chesaning a 3-0 lead. Fulk then drove in Sager with a single and Woodcock followed with a single of his own which knocked Fulk in. Woodcock eventually scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 6-0. Lucas Rumisek and Eli Escamilla kept the inning going by reaching base on an error and a walk respectively. Rumisek then crossed the plate on a wild pitch by the Bulldog pitcher to make the score 7-0. Chesaning once again loaded the base when Butcher was hit by a pitch and Volk walked. Powell then emptied the bases on a single and an error by the right fielder to increase the Indian lead to 10-0 after 2 innings. After a 1-2-3 top of the 3rd inning Chesaning wasted little time to get more traffic on the base paths. Wendling led off with a single and scored on a triple by Fulk. Fulk then scored, to make the score 12-0, on a single by Woodcock. Eli Keck was then hit by a pitch. Banks Deal then drove in Woodcock with his double to left field. Keck then scored when Volk singled to right field to push the Indian lead to 14-0. Deal then scored the final run of the game, when Wendling singled to right field to give Chesaning the 15-0 3 inning mercy rule victory.
