Friday night hoops and the win!

We played one of our best defensive games tonight! The girls did a great job of running our press and anticipating passes.  We did not capitalize enough early on but we were very persistent and the shots fell later in the game.  We jumped out to an early lead 12-5 after one quarter of play and almost duplicated that in the second quarter to have a half time lead of 23-11. Byron fought back in the 3rd quarter but we held on to a 14-12 advantage to take a 37-23 lead to the 4th quarter.  In the fourth quarter we outscored Byron 19-9 to win the game 56-32. 

Byron has improved a lot since we first played them back in the 3rd game of the season.  I knew their coach would have them make some adjustments and come at us. The victory improved our record to 11-5 and 8-4 in the MMAC (3rd place).  Byron fell to 3-12 overall and 2-9 in the MMAC.

Byron tried to use the box and 1 defense against us in the second half, focusing on Lilly Skaryd.  Lilly welcomed the challenge and still scored 11 points in the second half to finish with a game high 23 points.  Other team members were also the benefit of them concentrating on Lilly as Ava Devereaux scored 10 of her 16 points in the second half and Hannah Oakes scored all 7 of her points in the second half.   Our team made the extra pass all night long, probably our best passing game of the year!  We ended up with 18 team assists.
