In a shortened game 2 the Indians fell to OE 8-4.  Chesaning jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after 2 but OE was able to pick up 3 runs in the 3rd to tie the game.  Both teams were held scoreless in the 4th but OE outscored the Indians 5-1 in what ultimately was the last inning to fall 8-4.  Chesaning again outhit OE 9-4 in the nightcap.  Hailey Rolfe lead the Indians with 3 hits, leading off the game with a homerun, 2 runs scored and an RBI.  Others joining the hit parade were:

"It's always tough to open your season against a conference foe and you could tell their were some first game jitters, many of the student athletes were playing in their first varsity softball game while others are learning new positions.  I was very happy with the way we hit the ball tonight, outhitting them 27-13, we just made too many mental mistakes and to give OE credit, they made some plays in the field when they needed them that could have opened up some big innings for us.  Hopefully we can get some practices in outside where we can work on many of the things we struggled with, if we can do that I think you will see an improved team the rest of the season!  Want to give a shout out to Charley Mahan who after not pitching since her 7th grade year, stepped up to pitch as a sophomore after we lost Ava Devereaux to injury and threw 9 of the12 innings for us.  While she might not have the best stuff right now, she was certainly a warrior and as she gets more pitching time is only going to get better!!  Great job to all the girls!  Keep working hard and improving every day!!

Chesaning has a short turn around by taking on Ithaca on Tuesday before a busy week 2 when it plays New Lothrop on Monday, Beaverton on Wednesday and Valley Lutheran on Friday all at home.
