The Chesaning Boys Track & Field Team competed in the MITCA Division 3 Boys Team State Championship meet on Saturday, finishing in 3rd place with 1341 points. Host school Clare took first place with 1586 points, with Erie Mason finishing as the Runner-Up with 1393.5 points. The 3rd place finish was our best finishing spot at the MITCA meet. Sophomore Eric Barancik was the High Jump champion with a jump of 6’ 1” while the 800 meter relay team of Reese Greenfelder, Jaylen Anderson, Caleb Walker, and Zach Harlan earning the top spot.

The Chesaning Boys Track & Field team earned outright conference champion honors by winning the MMAC Conference Championship meet over 2nd place finisher Ovid-Elsie. The Tribe earned 217 points on the evening, finishing ahead of Ovid-Elsie (116) and New Lothrop (75). Senior Levi Maier and Sophomores Caleb Walker and Zach Harlan all finished as conference champions in 4 events. The Boys team will look to continue on its strong season with a trip to Clare for the MITCA Team Championship on Saturday, May 27th and at MHSAA State Finals on Saturday, June 3rd. Chesaning Track & Field hosted some of the top Division 3 competitors in the state in the Mhsaa Division 3 Region 30 meet. Chesaning secured a 2nd place finish with 188.5 hard fought points, finishing behind Pewamo-Westphalia’s 124.5 points. Despite facing a talented and competitive field, Chesaning was able to qualify 12 athletes in 15 out of 17 events in the State Finals meet. All qualifying performances bettered the State Qualifying Standards in addition to placing towards the top in each event.

Chesaning Varsity Boys Track & Field finished the regular season MMAC competition by hosting Mt. Morris, Lakeville, and Ovid-Elsie. The Indiains ended the regular season undefeated in the conference by capturing 99 points to Ovid-Elsie’s 38 points. Chesaning will look to finish their MMAC final standings at the MMAC Championship meet hosted by Ovid-Elsie on Tuesday, May 23rd. The Regular season record and the MMAC Championship meet combined determine final conference standings.

The Chesaning boys Track & Field Team traveled to Corunna to compete in their True Team Classic. Unlike traditional scoring meetings, this meet tests both the talent and depth of a team as every single competitor earns points for their team. Chesaning took a 2nd place finish in the small school division, earning 536.5 points behind only Corunna’s 608 points.

Chesaning Boys Track & Field team hosted MMAC conference competition on Wednesday, competing against Byron, Montrose, Mt. Morris, and Webberville. Chesaning defeated all four visiting teams, remaining undefeated in Conference competition by adding a win to their conference standing by defeating Montrose (first time competing against a team goes towards conference record). The Chesaning Boys Track and Field team competed in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Davison Shake Off the Rust Invitational. The Indians had a strong opening performance, earning a first place finish in the Small School Division, earning 149 points to best the second place finish of Caro (126). This was a promising start to our season, and shows we have a lot of potential with a very strong overall team, while also showing that we have a lot of work to do if we want to achieve our goals for this season. We are happy with this first performance, and now turn our attention to our first league competition on Wednesday, April 12th in Byron.

The Chesaning Boys Track & Field team opened up their season with the Saginaw Valley State University Invitational. There were 39 schools in attendance with over 1,000 athletes competing between the boys and girls competition. The Boys team showed well, with numerous athletes placing in medaling positions on the day. This was a nice start to the season to give our athletes where they stack up against other top teams and athletes from across the state.
