The Chesaning Indians Boys Varsity Basketball were back in action Friday night picking up an exciting win over host Durand High School. What a thrill it was to finally get a chance to see these boys back on the court! The Indians started off strong opening up with a 14-7 first quarter performance. The momentum shifted in favor of the Railroaders in the 2nd as they were able to claim a 25-21 lead over the tribe going into the half. "At halftime we refused to allow ourselves to panic. We knew coming into tonight that mistakes would be made - it's our first game and with only a handful of practices miscues were going to be inevitable. Our mission was to keep a positive attitude and fight to win every possession no matter what happens. Our guys did exactly that and we couldn't be prouder of their effort!" Durand was able to add to their lead pulling ahead 38-32 heading into the 4th. It was in the 4th though that the Indians resilience started to pay off. Down 9 with 5 minutes remaining Chesaning began to mount their comeback. Nick Fowler's break away layup and top of the key 3 on back to back possessions cut the deficit to 5. The hot shooting didn't stop after Fowler's 3 the Indians would hit from deep on 3 more consecutive possessions from Tyler Sager, Lucas Powell, and Brady Coon. Now with the lead, the Indians iced the game behind tough defense and Reese Greenfelder's clutch 4-5 free throw shooting in the game's final minutes. "Tonight was a total team effort! Each one of out 10 guys went out there and give it everything they had. Everyone of them played an important role in this game." The Indians are back in action Wednesday night as they travel to Mayville High School. The game can be viewed on the NFHS Network with a 7:30 tip.
