Chesaning Boys Track&Field Conference Champions

Chesaning Boys Track & Field completed the sweep of the MMAC League meets to secure their first MMAC Conference Championship, and first conference title since 2017. The Indians entered the league championship meet with first place victories in the first 2 league meets, with the goal of finishing the season undefeated in conference competition. “Our boys were really motivated for the meet today, and wanted to show that we are the top team in our conference. We have done a really good job at performing as a team this season, scoring in all 17 events. Levi Maier continued his strong running with 2 individual conference champion performances and a leg on the league winning 1600 meter relay team. Senior Brenden Quackenbush continued his dominant performance in the field events with a victory in Shot Put and a second place finish in Discus.” The Indians finish out their season with a trip to Clare for the MITCA Team State Meet on Saturday, May 28th followed by the MHSAA State Finals on June 3rd at Kent City High School. Come on out and support your Chesaning Indians Track & Field!

The Chesaning Indians hosted the MHSAA Region 30 Track Meet, finishing 2nd overall with 102.33 points narrowly behind Sanford-Meridian who finished with 105 points. “We knew this was going to be a tough meet. Our region has a lot of tough competition and some very well rounded teams. We really came out and competed today, making up points in many events, but we fell just short of a very talented Sanford team. I am very pleased with the effort we gave and the improvement our Relay teams made, with three relay teams earning trips to the MHSAA State finals meet. Both Brenden Quackenbush and Levi Maier had strong performances, with each taking 1st and 2nd in two individual events.” Chesaning looks to close out the season by hosting the MMAC League Championship meet on Tuesday, followed by the MITCA Team State Meet on Saturday, and the MHSAA State Finals on June 3rd. Come on out and support the Indians as they look to battle for the MMAC Conference Championship.

Chesaning Boys Track & Field took 2nd place in the Saginaw County Championship, finishing with 112 points. Saginaw Heritage took 1st with 177 points while Freeland finished 3rd with 100 points. “I thought we came out and really competed today. Our field events continue to stand out, securing 1st place finishes in the Pole Vault, Shot Put, Discus, and High Jump. Levi Maier led us in the running events by finishing as county champion in the 1600 meter run and the 800 meter run while also anchoring the 3rd place 4x800 relay team. Levi’s outstanding day earned him MVP honors.” Chesaning returns home to host the MHSAA Region 30 meet on Friday, May 20th Come on out to support your Chesaning Indians!

Boys Varsity Track 1st in Second MMAC League Meet

Chesaning Boys Track & Field (218 meet points) secured a first place finish at the 2nd MMAC League Jamboree On Wednesday with Ovid-Elsie(110.5) taking 2nd and Byron(86) rounding out the top 3. “Our guys came out ready to compete today. We have a lot of talent in our conference and we used that high level of competition to put some of our best performances together. We achieved 64 new Seasonal Best/Personal Best performances during the meet, including 9 first place finishes, 4 second place finishes, and 5 third place finishes. Levi Maier had a particularly strong day, capturing first place in the 800 meter run, the 1600 meter run, the 3200 meter run, and anchored the first place 1600 meter relay team. This was a great tuneup as we prepare for Regionals next week.” The Indians currently hold the lead in the conference after the two league meets. Chesaning travels to Heritage High School on Friday to compete in the Saginaw County Championship before returning home to host the MHSAA Regional Meet on Friday, May 20th.

Chesaning Boys Track & Field traveled to Corunna to compete in the Corunna True Team Classic where they secured a 3rd place finish. “This is a unique meet that tests both the strength and depth of our team. I was very impressed with the performances in the field events, which is quickly becoming a strength of our team. We continue to show improvement each time we compete, including 30 personal bests/season best achieved during this competition. We are now entering the most important portion of our season, and this improvement will be crucial towards our team success.” Chesaning returns to action on Wednesday as we host the second MMAC League meet, Friday at the Saginaw County Championship, and Friday May 20th as we host the MHSAA Regional meet.

Chesaning Boys Track & Field hosted the Chesaning Track and Field Classic on Friday, April 29th. The Indians secured a first place finish in the small school division, with a 4th place overall finish behind large schools Frankenmuth, Heritage, and Corunna. “I am pleased with the way the boys team competed against a very challenging field. Our relay teams really stepped up with all four relays setting new season best performances. Our field events continued their strong showing by placing well in Pole Vault, Shot Put, and Discus. I am pleased with the steady improvement we have shown over the course of the season so far. However, for us to reach our goals that we have set for this season we know we have a lot of work to do between now and our Regional meet that is less than three weeks away.” Chesaning returns to action on Friday, May 6th at the Corunna True Team Classic.

Chesaning Boys Track & Field opened up conference competition with first place finish at the first of 4 MMAC meets. Chesaning secured 154 points to runner-up Ovid-Elsie’s 118 points. They were followed by: Montrose(101.5), Byron(86), New Lothrop(73), Durand(61.5), Lakeville(28), and Mt. Morris(9). We have a lot of talent in the MMAC in all 17 events. “I am pleased with the way the boys team competed today. They showed up eager to show that they are one of the top teams in the conference. Their hard work is starting to pay off, but we definitely have some work to do moving forward to reach our individual and team goals for this season.”

Chesaning Boys Track & Field traveled to Freeland to compete in the Freeland Falcon Invitational on Sunday. The Indians took 6th place overall and 2nd place out of the Division 3 teams in attendance. “This was our first outdoor meet of the very young season. I was excited to see how our athletes stack up against some very challenging competition. I couldn’t help but come away impressed with the way these athletes competed. Every single member of this team gave each event their absolute best, and I am proud of the effort they displayed. This was an excellent chance to showcase where we currently are as a team, with the understanding that we have a lot of work to do to reach the goals we have set for ourselves.”
Senior Grant Sampson had a particularly successful meet, placing 3rd overall in the 110 Hurdles, 1st overall in the 300 Hurdles (setting new PR by nearly 2 seconds), and served as the lead runner for the 400 meter and 800 meter relay teams. Junior Levi Maier took 3rd place in the 800 meter run, 2nd place in the 1600 meter run, and served as the anchor runner on both the 3200 meter and 1600 meter relay teams.
In the field events Senior Brenden Quackenbush took 1st place overall in Shot Put with a throw that traveled just over 45 feet. Junior Reese Greenfelder placed 4th in the Shot Put with a new PR and took 3rd place in the High Jump, his first time ever competing in the high jump.

Chesaning Boys Track & Field battled fierce wind and tough competition to finish first overall in the St. Louis Invitational. The Indians earned 106.5 points on the evening, with Clare finishing 2nd with 79.5 and St. Louis 3rd with 77 points to take the top 3 places out of the 13 team invitational. The strength and depth of our Boys varsity team really showed tonight.
Standout performances include:
Levi Maier taking first in the 800 meter run, first in the 1600 meter run, and served as the anchor runner on the first place 4 x 400 meter relay team
Freshman Zach Harlan taking 3rd in the 100 meter dash and 5th in the 200 meter dash
Grant Sampson taking 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles, 3rd in the 110 hurdles, and running on the first place 4 x 400 meter relay team
Brenden Quackenbush taking 2nd place in both the Shot Put and Discus
Reese Greenfelder medaling in both the High Jump (2nd) and Discus (6th)
