Several Chesaning Varsity Baseball Players Earn All-Area Honors

The 2021 Chesaning Varsity Baseball team continues to garner honors for their play this season. Congratulations to Tyler Sager and Logan Fulk for earning 1st Team All-Area honors from the Argus Press for the Shiawassee County area. Sager was selected as a pitcher and Fulk as an outfielder. Weston Powell earned 2nd Team honors as an infielder and Lucas Powell earned Honorable Mention honors as a catcher.
Congratulations to Logan Fulk (outfield), Weston Powell (infield), Lucas Powell (catcher) and Nash Wendling (pitcher) for also earning Honorable Mention All-Area honors for Saginaw County.

Congratulations to Tyler Sager for being named to the 2021 MLive Saginaw are Baseball Dream Team. As a pitcher Sager threw 56 2/3 innings, going 7-2 with 1 save and had 2 no-hitters. He allowed 24 hits and 11 walks, striking out 109 batters with an ERA of 1.61. Offensively, Sager hit .536 with a .637 on-base percentage and .710 slugging percentage. He knocked in 29 runs and scored 26 runs with 2o walks and just 4 strike outs in 91 at-bats.

Good Luck Weston Powell at the North vs. South All-Star game

Good Luck to Weston Powell as he prepares to play in the North vs. South All-Star baseball game at Dow Diamond. Weston will be teaming with players from the Saginaw, Midland and Bay area against players from Genesee and Shiawassee counties. The game will be played on Thursday, July 1st at 6:00 PM at Dow Diamond. The cost for admission is $5 and tickets will be available at the gate.

Chesaning Varsity Baseball 2021 Season Awards

On Thursday, June 10 the 2021 Chesaning Varsity Baseball Team held its end of the season Awards Ceremony. Many athletic and academic honors were garnered by the team this year and more are still to come. Here are the awards these great student-athletes earned this season.
Team Awards--these awards were voted on by the team Heart, Hustle & Energy--Logan Fulk Most Improved Player--Dylan James Rookie of the Year--Nash Wendling Offensive Player of the Year--Tyler Sager Defensive Player of the Year--Weston Powell Pitcher of the Year--Tyler Sager Team MVP--Tyler Sager Record Breakers Team Record: Most shutouts in a season. Tied the 1988 team with 7 shutouts in the season. This years team, also had 6 games where they allowed only 1 run as well! Team Record: Most strikeouts in a season by our pitchers. The previous record was set by the 1988 team with 221 strikeouts. The new record is 238 strikeouts. Individual Record: Tyler Sager broke the school record for single season batting average with a .536 average. The previous record was set by Brent Molnar in 1989 with a .535 average. All-Conference Selections--these honors were voted on by the league coaches Eli Escamilla--Honorable Mention, Outfield Rafe Deal--Honorable Mention, Infield Logan Fulk--2nd Team, Outfield Lucas Powell--2nd Team, Catcher Nash Wendling--2nd Team, Pitcher Weston Powell--1st Team, Infield Tyler Sager--1st Team, Pitcher Academic All-District--these honors were voted on by the 10 schools in our District. Bath, Carrollton, Chesaning, Hemlock, Ithaca, Laingsburg, Ovid-Elsie, St. Charles, St. Louis and Valley Lutheran. Weston Powell--4.10 GPA; Graduated 2nd in the Senior Class Tyler Sager--3.96 GPA Andrew Woodcock--3.84 GPA Nate Marshall--3.50 GPA All-District--these honors were voted on by the 10 schools in our District. Bath, Carrollton, Chesaning, Hemlock, Ithaca, Laingsburg, Ovid-Elsie, St. Charles, St. Louis and Valley Lutheran. Senior, Weston Powell was also selected to play in the Bruin Classic All-Star game on Monday, June 21st at Whaley Park in Flint. The game will start at 5:30 PM.
Congratulations to all of the award winners and the 2021 Varsity Baseball Team. The team finished the season with a 19-10-1 record and a 2nd Place finish in the MMAC with a 10-4 record.
